ACTORS WORKSHOP GUIDELINES & CODE OF CONDUCT

INTRODUCTION

Before attending any of our classes, courses, workshops or events, please read these guidelines and our supporting terms and conditions.

Our aim is to provide a welcoming, inclusive and professional environment where actors of different backgrounds, experiences and abilities can learn, develop and enjoy their training.

By booking or attending our services, you agree to follow these guidelines and respect the expectations outlined below.

BEHAVIOUR & PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

Acting is a collaborative discipline built upon mutual respect, trust, communication and a willingness to work with others.

We expect all members to treat fellow actors, tutors and staff with courtesy and respect, regardless of their experience, background, identity or ability.

Discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, threatening behaviour or abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.

Members must not attend classes under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Our workshops frequently explore challenging characters, relationships and situations. While fictional material may involve sensitive or controversial themes, this must never be used to justify inappropriate behaviour towards fellow members.

Working with Others

Members should be willing to collaborate with a variety of scene partners and participate constructively in group activities.

While we welcome individual preferences and creative suggestions, scene partners, casting, scripts and exercises are ultimately determined by our tutors according to the learning objectives and needs of the group.

Members are expected to respect these decisions and demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively.

Personal Boundaries & Consent

Acting sometimes involves emotionally challenging material, physical interaction or the exploration of personal relationships.

All members must respect the personal boundaries and comfort levels of their fellow actors.

Physical contact, intimate performance work or potentially sensitive exercises must be approached with appropriate consent and under the guidance of the tutor.

Members should never feel pressured to participate in physical or intimate interactions against their wishes. Alternative approaches will be considered where appropriate.

Taking Direction

An important part of actor training is developing the ability to receive, interpret and respond to direction.

We encourage members to ask questions, explore creative choices and contribute ideas, while remaining receptive to constructive feedback and the professional guidance of our tutors.

Our aim is to create a supportive environment in which everyone can learn, experiment and develop.

Disruptive Behaviour

Behaviour that repeatedly disrupts classes, undermines the learning experience of others or compromises the safety and wellbeing of members may result in appropriate action, including a discussion, warning, suspension or termination of membership.

Serious incidents may require immediate removal from a class or event.

The Actors Workshop Nottingham reserves the right to take proportionate action where necessary to protect its members, staff and learning environment, subject to applicable legal obligations.

Where concerns arise outside scheduled classes but directly affect the safety or wellbeing of our members, we may also take appropriate action.

YOUR EXPECTATIONS

At The Actors Workshop Nottingham, you can expect engaging, challenging and enjoyable acting training delivered in a supportive, inclusive and professionally focused environment.

Our tutors aim to encourage creativity, confidence, personal development and a willingness to take artistic risks.

Having provided acting training for over 16 years, we recognise that every actor brings different strengths, experiences, ambitions and learning needs.

Developing as an actor takes time, practice and a constructive relationship between the student and tutor.

We encourage open communication and welcome conversations about individual learning needs, accessibility requirements and ways we can support participation.

We aim to make reasonable adjustments for disabled members wherever appropriate and practicable, in accordance with our legal obligations.

Our workshops are designed to challenge actors at different stages of development, but we recognise that not every class or exercise will be suitable for every individual.

Where difficulties arise, we will endeavour to discuss appropriate support or alternatives.

CLASS PLACEMENT & PROGRESSION

The Actors Workshop Nottingham operates a rolling membership system with a flexible curriculum.

Our classes cater for different levels of experience and development, and members are placed in groups considered appropriate for their current training needs.

Progression between groups is not automatic and is not determined solely by length of membership or previous acting experience.

Our tutors consider acting ability, responsiveness to direction, adaptability, collaborative skills and readiness for the demands of a particular group.

Class placement and progression decisions are made by The Actors Workshop teaching team, taking into account individual development, appropriate adjustments, group suitability and availability.

Members wishing to discuss their placement or request a group change should contact us by email.

For further information, please refer to our website page How Our Classes Work & Progression.

FEES & MEMBERSHIP

Our weekly workshops operate on a monthly membership basis.

The current fee is £60 per month, providing a reserved place in one assigned weekly class throughout the year, excluding our scheduled Christmas and New Year break.

Monthly payments are made by bank standing order.

Membership reserves your place within an assigned group rather than guaranteeing attendance at a specific number of sessions each month.

We encourage regular attendance, as consistent participation is generally beneficial to individual development and the continuity of group work.

If you are unable to attend a class, please notify us by email so that our registers remain accurate.

Trial Classes

Trial classes cost £15.

If you attend a trial class and decide to continue during the same month, the standard monthly membership fee of £60 becomes payable for that month, followed by regular standing order payments.

Cancellation of Membership

Members wishing to cancel their membership are asked to provide one month's written notice by email.

Any payments due during the applicable notice period remain subject to our membership terms and your statutory rights.

Additional Workshops & Events

Specialist workshops, masterclasses and one-off events may have separate fees and booking conditions, which will be communicated when advertised.

Membership fees and bookings are personal and cannot be transferred to another individual without prior agreement.

Refunds and cancellations are handled in accordance with our published booking terms and applicable consumer law.

ATTENDANCE & GROUP TRANSFERS

Members are expected to attend their assigned weekly class at the agreed day and time.

Transfers between in-person classes are not automatically permitted.

Requests to change groups must be submitted by email and will be considered according to availability, suitability and the member's current stage of development.

Occasionally, our tutors may recommend an alternative group where they believe this would be beneficial to a member's training.

Where online classes are available, members unable to attend an in-person session may request permission to attend an online class instead. This is subject to prior approval and availability.

We appreciate that work, health, family responsibilities and other circumstances may occasionally affect attendance.

We simply ask members to communicate absences wherever possible.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS & RESCHEDULING

We make every reasonable effort to deliver classes as scheduled.

Occasionally, unforeseen circumstances, tutor illness, adverse weather or other events outside our control may require a class to be cancelled, rescheduled or delivered by an alternative tutor.

Where possible, we will arrange suitable cover or provide an alternative session.

Members will be informed of significant changes as soon as reasonably practicable, usually by email or through our private members' communication channels.

Where a class cannot be delivered, appropriate remedies will be provided in accordance with our booking terms and applicable consumer rights.

PROLIFIC TALENT MANAGEMENT
The Actors Workshop Nottingham is affiliated with Prolific Talent Management, a professional talent agency representing actors working across television, film, theatre and other areas of the entertainment industry.

As part of our commitment to supporting actors in their professional development, members of The Actors Workshop may have opportunities to apply for representation with Prolific Talent Management.

However, membership of The Actors Workshop does not guarantee representation, regardless of an individual's experience, ability or length of attendance.

Applications for representation are considered independently and are subject to the agency's current availability, the suitability of applicants for professional representation and the requirements of its existing client roster.

While we are proud to provide a potential pathway from training into professional representation, all decisions regarding acceptance onto the agency's books remain entirely at the discretion of Prolific Talent Management.

Our primary commitment at The Actors Workshop is to provide high-quality acting training, helping members develop the skills, confidence and experience to pursue opportunities within the industry, whether through Prolific Talent Management or other professional agencies.
